Honoring: Land & Lineage

Join me and The Realm Collective from 10:30am - 11:30am for an interactive performance of music, poetry, art, and ritual honoring Ancestors — those Ancestors of blood, those of the land, and those of craft.

Honoring: Land and Lineage is a ritual performance that invites you to explore and honor connections with ancestors of blood, ancestors of land, and ancestors of craft (those who inspire us). Part poetry, part meditation, part sonic immersion, this performance uses piano, voice, and electronics to turn the Center for Creativity into a cathedral of sound.  Silen will share their own compositions, including the U.S. premier of “The Land that Birthed Me” that they wrote for their ancestral lands in Norway, and “How the Light Loves to Fall,” a wordless prayer invoking light pouring into velvety soil.

Some parts will be participatory with spoken instructions, and other parts will be wordless soundscapes that invite you to deepen. Everything is an invitation, and participate at the level you are comfortable. 

There will be part of the performance where you are invited to co-create an altar to the land. You are invited to bring something that inspires you about the land we live on. This could be a drawing, a poem, a piece of organic material you harvest or pick from the land consensually, or something else! Extra materials will be provided so no worries if you don’t have something to bring.

The ritual methodologies Silen will use throughout this performance come from their spiritual traditions — Silen is a witch in the Reclaiming Tradition and an Initiate of the Wildwood Tradition. They honor their many teachers, many Elders, Mighty Dead, spirits, and Gods of these threads that have offered them so much.
