About Silen as Witch

I have been practicing witchcraft for 10 years, and remembering witchcraft my entire life. My witchcraft is one of praying to stars, listening to the ghosts in piano strings, feasting with many Gods, and dancing at the threshold between worlds.

I was drawn to witchcraft from a young age, lost it during my many years at the gateway of suicidality, and found my way back to it through desperation and serendipity. I am interested in the places where spirit and madness overlap, and witchcraft has been the primary tool that helped me come home to myself and commit to my own life force.

My witchcraft weaves together animism, sound, play, ritual, performance, poetry, and devotion. I practice to deepen communion with Mystery, to show up and be fully present in the world, and to steward better futures.

I am a witch in Reclaiming Tradition and a Dedicant of the Wildwood Tradition. I honor my many teachers, many Elders and Mighty Dead of these threads that have offered me so much.

I teach witchcraft classes online, in-person, and at witchcamps.

Upcoming Classes

Queering the Elements of Magic

with Lilo Assenci

Queering the Elements is a 6-week virtual Reclaiming core class that will teach you the core principles and practices to create magic in your life, and especially to explore queer magical tools and honor the Queer within and outside us.

Through exploring the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit, we will connect with ourselves, queerness & the Land and develop skills to show up ever more fully in the world and in our communities. This class will explore: What is the magic I have to offer our communities? How can we bring our magic out of the circle and into the world? What are our queer tools to honor, to affirm, to celebrate?

Lilo & I designed a lot of this course material by asking ourselves - what is the magic we need right now as queer people? How have the Elements been life affirming to us & our queer bodies? I loved teaching this class last year, getting to braid together all my nerdy queer theory that often felt spiritual and revelatory with me with my magical practice.

We use queer as a verb. In the words of bell hooks, “‘Queer’ not as being about who you’re having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but ‘queer’ as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and that has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.”

Rites of Passage: Living Your Myth with Tarot & Ritual

with Suzanne Sterling

Rites of Passage (a Reclaiming core class) is designed to unite your creative and magical selves as you cultivate the skills to becoming your own priestex/ess. We will be working with Tarot, art and ritual as tools for self-transformation and world changing magic.

Times of great loss and change are times of initiation, they are portals for growth and awakening. It is in this shimmering, liminal moment that we as witches, magic makers, artists and creatives can and must be most effective.

In this class, we will be exploring our own mythic landscapes, and use the tool of Tarot to storytell, deepen, and understand ourselves as ritual artists. Students should have their own Tarot deck for this class, but don’t need to have an established Tarot practice to join us. Beginning Tarot readers are welcome!

We will be learning valuable ritual arts such as:

  • Trance - how to lead trances and using trance as part of ritual

  • Myth - exploring the story of the Major Arcana and how to work with the story to enhance the mythology of our own lives

  • Mystery -  building relationship with, listening to and Aspecting the Spirits

  • Improvisation - learning ways to work with the unknown and to “play” in ritual

  • Creativity - how rhythm, chant, song and movement enhance magical spaces

This is a core class in the Reclaiming tradition.  We ask that you have attended an Elements of Magic class or been to a Reclaiming ritual or contact us directly about your ritual experience.

Class Dates & Times:

6 Sundays Jan 11, 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15

From 10am to 1pm Pacific Time (San Francisco)  each day.
